Focus Shockwave

Focus Shockwave

Focused Shockwave Therapy Machines for Australian Clinics

Focused shockwave therapy is a form of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) that delivers acoustic energy to a precise depth within the tissue. Because the energy converges at a target point rather than dissipating at the skin, focused shockwave is well suited to deeper and more localised musculoskeletal problems. This range brings together the Chattanooga Intelect Focus Shockwave and the Storz Duolith SD1 T-TOP Ultra for clinics building or expanding an ESWT service.

Focused vs radial shockwave

Focused and radial pressure wave (RPW) devices generate energy differently. Focused systems use an electromagnetic or electrohydraulic source to reach maximal energy at a selected depth, while radial devices generate their peak energy at the skin, which then spreads as it travels. Many practices run both so they can match the modality to the presentation. You can read a fuller comparison on our focused and RPW shockwave therapy page.

What clinicians use focused shockwave for

Focused shockwave is commonly used in physiotherapy, sports medicine and orthopaedic settings for conditions such as chronic insertional tendinopathies, plantar fasciopathy, calcific tendinopathy and bone stress injuries, where depth and precision matter. It is also used in some urology settings. Treatment is typically delivered over a short course of sessions, with the protocol set by the treating clinician.
